Unique Artisan Furniture

These pictures are a small sample of the fine furniture produced by Habitat Envy.  Everything is handmade using traditional craftsman skills with an acute attention to detail.

Walnut Dining Table

This table is made from two 9ft walnut slabs from the same tree.  The slabs are "book matched" meaning they are joined in a way that the wood grain on each slab mirrors the other. A great amount of time was taken to ensure that the join is as close to invisible as possible. You will also see that where there are cracks in the slabs they have been stabilized with Ebony bowtie inlays that were chiselled out and inlaid by hand. The cracks and knots were then further stabilized using black epoxy resin.

The finish coat is 4 layers of a highly durable polyurethane that is sanded to 5000 grit between each coat so that the table is protected from spills and damage without the look of a heavy lacquer finish.

This monster table sits on over 60ft of 5" wide walnut and is a true statement piece for any dining room!

Walnut Console Table

Made entirely by hand and without the use of any power tools this solid walnut console table is a true work of art. The top is made from a single piece of Walnut that was hand sawn along its length to create two "book matched" pieces. Once joined together the top was then placed on 1.5" square walnut supports that have been recessed into the base by hand. This gives the piece a much lighter feel and is a real design feature.

The drawer faces are also "book matched" to give a beautiful grain pattern flow across the width of the entire piece. Even the interior of the drawers gets some attention with birch inlays for contrast.

Redwood Burl Coffee Table

This table started out as an old piece of Redwood Burl that had been sat rotting in someone's back garden and is now a true show stopper!

It is an amazing one of a kind contemporary Redwood Burl coffee table with Wenge legs. To add some unique detail the rot holes in the table top were meticulously finished with copper penny color resin.  By creating heat variances in the resin as it cured we were able to mirror the natural grain of the wood with copper colored resin. You can see the transformation in the last 2 pictures above. A detail that not only looks beautiful but also reinforces the natural flaws in the wood. The same copper penny resin was also used to add uniquely contrasting detail to the dark Wenge legs. The wood grain on this piece is beautiful and looks like you are staring into a burning fire. By contrast, the slick epoxy surface gives the appearance of water while giving exceptional durability and a glass-like finish.
